2025 Wineglass Bay Sauvignon Blanc $30

Freycinet Vineyard's Wineglass Bay label takes its name from the iconic seascape on Freycinet Peninsula and has been used as the company's flagship brand in the UK since the 1990s. This vintage of Wineglass Bay's ever-popular dry white was awarded Top Gold and Best Sauvignon Blanc at the 2026 Tasmanian Wine Show.
It may be a crowd-pleaser but the wine caught the judging panel's attention for good reason. Winemaker Claudio Radenti is especially adept at producing these wines, employing partial barrel fermentation in his pursuit of creating Sauvignon Blanc with texture and complexity. In this instance, around 40 percent of the wine spent time in barrel, a small portion of it being in new oak.
The attention to detail is impressive, and so is the resultant wine.
Lime/citrus, passionfruit and gooseberry characters are all present, skilfully woven together during their time in barrel, yet in no way dominated by oak. It's a smooth and refined style. The wine is at its best when poured alongside dishes prepared from the East Coast's world-renowned larder of scale fish and shellfish.
'Restraint is desired with SB fruit as it is overtly powerful,' noted the judges at the Show.
Got it in one.
