2024 Rivulet Glaziers Bay Chardonnay $55

11/03/2025

Glaziers Bay is arguably the 'dress circle' of the Huon Valley/D'Entrecasteaux wine district. Nowadays home to Chatto Wines, two decades ago it was celebrated as the domain of Eric and Jette Phillips, who founded their renowned Elsewhere Vineyard above the Huon River in 1984 and later retired to No Regrets  (planted in 2000). Owen and Eve Knight have worked wonders in re-invigorating their old vines since taking ownership of Elsewhere in 2015. It really shows in this marvellous young cool climate Chardonnay.

Former Winemaking Tasmania whizkid Keira O'Brien spent years getting to know the good, the bad and the ugly of the site and the district during her time with industry pioneer, Julian Alcorso. So it's no wonder this Elsewhere disciple managed to craft such a cracking wine from the outstanding 2024 vintage. Pale gold, it shines on the palate as well as in the glass. Stylish barrel-ferment notes and neatly focused citrus/melon fruit aromas telegraph the message that this is a mid-weight Chardonnay with great presence as well as finesse. Some subtle fig elements along with an attractive malty/bready character enter the picture as the wine drives towards a more-ish savoury finish. Lovely.
