2024 Bream Creek Pinot Noir $50

02/28/2026

Having visited Bream Creek's wonderful vineyard cellar door overlooking Marion Bay and Maria Island on a number of occasions, I've often been struck by the fact that this is such a modest development in terms of its footprint in the landscape. But as time has gone by, it seems to me there is good reason. Somewhere, owner Fred Peacock has a much larger facility that is entirely devoted to storing all the wine show trophies that Bream Creek has won in recent years. I can imagine the doors already being difficult to close...

This 2024 Pinot Noir was only bottled a year ago, but by the end of 2025 it had won six trophies and 9 gold medals on the Australian wine show circuit. And it wasn't exhibited at every show.

Meanwhile, its portfolio stablemate - the unreleased 2024 Reserve Pinot Noir - began 2026 with a gold medal at the Tasmanian Wine Show and a great gold (97pts) at the Catavinum World Wine & Spirit Competition in Spain.

The Tasmanian Wine Show panel - chaired by renowned WA winemaker Virginia Willcock - declared 2024 'a great vintage. Pray for more vintages like this...'

You can say that again. Pinot Noir vineyards from one end of Tasmania to the other produced some incredible wines in 2024, thankfully in a range of styles - from the ethereal wines produced by the likes of Chatto and Sailor Seeks Horse in the Huon, to the much richer riper styles of the Coal River Valley, East Coast and Tamar Valley.

Bream Creek's flagship wine is typically rich and sumptuous, for me bordering on too much of a good thing. But there are nevertheless many occasions when that's the style best suited to the food on offer. Long-time followers of Bream Creek will recognise the dark cherry and plum aromatics and those engaging nuances of Tasmanian sassafras forest floor/undergrowth. The palate, of course, flows seamlessly, with each glass providing satisfaction and the urge to pour another.

Pinot Noir newcomers will be astounded by the detail and depth of flavour that these wines from cool climate Tasmania have to offer. Seeing is believing. The vineyard cellar door is barely half an hour's drive from Hobart.
